WGBY’s bilingual series Presencia looks at education, especially regarding language and the arts. Meet educator and multilingual poet María Luisa Arroyo, as she performs two of her original poems — “Cuéntame” and “No Hay Elles.” Then, learn how to advocate for children within the school system with helpful tips from Dr. Milagros Martinez-Schettini of the Latino Education Institute and parent Hector L. Santos. Finally, CODA Latin Jazz Fusion Ensemble changes it up a bit, performing the songs “Walking” and “To Alicia” (both by Edilio Bermúdez), before author/teacher/translator/poet Rhina P. Espaillat shares her journey as a literary professional, starting as a young girl writing poetry in both English and Spanish.
