Teaching Immigrants Their Workers’ Rights

Verónica García hablará de los derechos del trabajador inmigrante con la colombiana Diana Sierra, organizadora en estrategia política en la educación de los derechos del emigrante del Centro Obrero del Valle Pionero, y el ingeniero agrónomo guatemalteco Carlos Marín. Escucharemos sus experiencias como inmigrantes, así como la historia en sus procesos migratorios, y los esfuerzos que han tenido que hacer para superar sus adversidades. Diana concluirá enfatizando la importancia de conocer nuestros derechos como trabajador, y nos guiará para saber cuáles son las organizaciones gubernamentales y sociales a las cuales un trabajador puede acudir, si está siendo abusado laboralmente, discriminado, intimidado o acosado sexualmente por su empleador. 

Veronica Garcia will talk about the rights of migrant workers with Diana Sierra, native of Colombia and organizer in political strategy in the education of emigrant rights at the Pioneer Valley Workers Center, and Guatemalan agricultural engineer Carlos Marín.  We will hear about their experiences as immigrants, as well as the story behind their migration processes and the efforts they have had to make in order to overcome adversity.  Diana will highlight the importance of learning about our rights as workers and will tell us about which governmental organizations we can turn to if we experience abuse, discrimination, intimidation, or sexual harassment in the workplace.
